Last month, I came up with the auspicious goal of creating a brief cancer “quick-start” guide to help those recently diagnosed with cancer. I figured I’d compile and edit a few of my prior blog posts, and bam, have a nice 10-page booklet I could give away for free.
Well, what started out as a 10-page booklet has evolved into a 66-page, professionally designed ebook, with some of my best material from my blog but also a TON of new material, including lists of the biggest “Dos” and Don’ts” for family members and friends of cancer patients (Do: deliver meals on a regular basis. Don’t: offer help and then pull a disappearing act). I am so proud of what I’ve created and can’t wait to share it with the world.
I want to offer a sincere thanks to all the people who were involved in making this project a reality. Thank you to my readers for supporting me and for offering specific suggestions for the “Do’s” and “Don’ts” lists. A special thank you to two readers, Victoria Yu and Julie A. Berry, for donating their copyediting skills, and to Janet Brent of JFlo Studios for donating her absolutely beautiful graphic design work.
Thank you to Michael Bartosek and Shannon Cottrell for their skilled portrait photography (if you are looking for an LA-based portrait photographer, these are the people to call). And thank you to Kristen Clark for allowing me to use her stunning nature photography.
If you like the guide, I would LOVE if you could spread the word! Email it to a friend you think it could help, send a Tweet, or share it on Facebook.

You are amazing, Elana! Absolutely wonderful guide! I can’t believe you were able to put it together while undergoing chemo! Sending healing wishes your way.

Not read it yet, as it is the middle of a work day in Singapore. I just know that it’d be great. Thanks for sharing.

Elana,
Just finished reading it and as expected, it was awesome and thorough. I wish I would have had a few of those tips to remind me to cut myself a break (It’s okay to be needy and feel what you feel – be authentic.). Asking myself or my husband “Why am I so damned tired?” wasn’t as gentle as saying, “I’m tired. I’m going to go lay down.” Self realization has never been my strong suit.
Thank you so much for all your hard work in putting out this guide and being real in your writing. I am so grateful for your classroom.

66-pages, holy moly! That’s incredible! I downloaded it and will read it at my leisure at home. But I’m sure it’s fabulous based on all your writings in the past! I wish I had something like this when I was diagnosed in 2001, and when I relapsed in 2010. I know it will help MANY and I’ll be sharing it online with three FB support groups. BTW, I love the title!!! Take care, Elana! Wishing you the VERY best!

Hi there! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering if you knew
where I could find a captcha plugin for my comment form?
I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having problems finding one?
Thanks a lot!
